In the Hongkong Weekly Preas of the 5th November there is a Report of a meeting of the Licensing Board, under the Presidency of the Colonial Secretary, to enquire into applications for the renewal of licenses of certain well-known hotels in the Colony. F. Reichmann, a terman, applied for the Grand Hotel, and P.0.Feuster, a naturalised
The Hon. ir. Hewett German, applied on behalf of the Peak Hotel. spoke very strongly against alien enemies being granted licenses in
a British Colony and asked that a vote should be taken.
The result, in the case of Reichmann, was that six members of
the Colonial fecretary- the Board voted against the license and one favoured it: in the case of Teuster, the final voting showed that four members were opposed to any license being granted, one was
